Home›How it works
Simple by designOne platform, two sides. Crew find opportunities. The industry finds crew.
Velvet Ocean Crew works in four steps for crew (create a profile, set availability, get discovered, reply on your terms) and four steps for employers (register free for 30 days, search with AI-powered filters, review verified profiles, contact and hire direct). No agency commission and no placement fee apply on either side.
Add your rank, certifications, experience, languages and uniform sizes. Upload your STCW, ENG1 and any other documents. It's completely free and takes under ten minutes.
Tell the network whether you're available now, onboard until a certain date, or looking for daywork only. You can update this at any time from your profile dashboard.
Agencies, charter companies and yacht owners search the network by role, ticket, vessel size, languages and location. Your profile surfaces in the results that match your background.
Employers contact you directly. You receive the message, review the opportunity and decide whether to reply. No intermediary, no commission on your salary, no pressure.
Agencies, charter companies and owners get one month of full access free, no card required. Complete your organisation profile so crew know who's reaching out.
Filter by department, specific role, ticket held (STCW, ENG1, Yachtmaster), vessel size experience, languages, base location and availability status — including immediate.
Every profile shows uploaded certificates alongside work history. You see at a glance whether a candidate is in good standing, without chasing documents over email or WhatsApp.
Message candidates directly through the platform. Save shortlists, compare profiles side by side and move from search to offer in a single session.
Certificates are attached to the profile, not sent later. You see the credentials before you make first contact.
Crew keep every euro of their salary. We don't sit between you and your employer, and we don't take a placement fee from anyone.
Search by the things that actually matter: department, ticket, vessel size experience, availability and daywork preference.
Crew can see which type of employer reached out. Employers can see who has read their message. Everything stays in one thread per candidate.
Yes, completely and permanently. Crew create and maintain their profile at no cost. We do not charge crew a subscription and we do not take a percentage of placements.
Register your organisation and you get thirty days of full platform access at no charge, no card required. At the end of the trial you can choose a subscription plan or stop — no automatic billing.
Yes. From your profile you can switch between “Available”, “Available from [date]”, “Onboard” and “Daywork only” at any time. Employers searching for immediate availability will not see your profile while you are marked onboard.
Your email and phone number are only shared when you choose to respond to a message. Employers can see your profile and documents but contact must be initiated through the platform's messaging system first.
